Translated from the Greek by John Dryden and Others. The Whole Carefully Revised and Corrected to which is Prefixed 'A Life of Plutarch.' Reprinted from the Latest English Editions. "This translation of the lives here presented is that known as Dryden's ; because a life of Plutarch from his hand was originally published with it, at the end of the seventeenth century, and is a reprint of the text as it appears in the edition in five volumes, published in 1859 by Little, Brown & Co." No publishing date, but appears to be from late 19th century. 925 pp. Brown cloth covers with gilt title box on spine. Cover corners are bumped and rubbed to boards, edges rubbed with some bumps, wear and marks to cover faces, areas on joints are rubbed, spine ends are bent and starting to fray. Small red ink mark on front inside cover. Previous owner's name written on front free endpaper. Small Breaks to both hinges. Interior pages are browning along edges, some small foxing spots. Spine tight. Book in Good+ condition.

Laid in: 18 pp. booklet of ATHENS compiled by JAS for the American Mission personnel for their dally living "needs.; PLAN OF CENTRAL ATHENS AND MAP OF ATTICA, a fold-out brochure from the Secretary General for Tourism; and a 16 pp. article from National Institute Guides to Places of Historical Interest in Greece, DELPHI, FROM ATHENS TO DELPHI. Book is Good to Good + exterior. Bottom front corner tip slightly dented as is one small place on lower edge ( possibly dropped?) mildly soiled along bottom edge, otherwise Very Good. Interior is Very Good+ to Near Fine. Illustrations in black and white and color are by the author. Decorative endpapers. Dust Jacket has small tears around edges and at creases of gutters and flaps. 2 small repairs with scotch tape. Overall Good.

All covers and page edges with mild soiling. One front cover with bottom corner tip missing, and another with bottom corner pages creased back. Mildly faded covers. Spines mildly soiled and rubbed. Volume II's front cover with ex.-mus stamp. Overall covers are Good. All interiors are tight, clean and Very Good +. Scarce to have all four volumes.

5 Phillips, Henry Jr., REMARKS UPON A COIN OF SICYON
Philadelphia American Journal of Numismatics 1882 Wraps Good Coins Size: Approx. 6 " x 9 1/2" 
Reprinted from the American Journal of Numismatics for January, 1882. "The coin which has attracted my attention is a hemidrachm, struck about 250 B. C., bearing on the obverse a chimaera, with the inscription Sigma Iota; reverse, a dove flying, Sigma in field. Sicyon, now Basitico, in the Peloponnesus, was the capital of the country of the same name. It was among the most ancient of the inhabited portions of Greece, preserving an autonomy under varying vicissitudes, and ultimately becoming a member of the Achaian League." 9 pp. mostly uncut. ex.mus. stamp/numbers on front cover. Bottom edge with tears and mildly at side edge. Vertical crease down the middle as if folded - line visible in text, but not obtrusive. Interior is tight, clean and Very Good +. Henry Phillips, Jr. was an author, philologist, and numismatist. He was born in Philadelphia in 1838 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1859. Although he was admitted to the Philadelphia Bar in 1859, Phillips devoted most of his life to researches and writings in the fields of philology, numismatics, and folklore. He was most closely identified with the American Philosophical Society where he served at various times as curator, secretary, and librarian. He died in 1895.
