Three thick labels in Red Leather: House Documents Vol.33; in Brown Leather: No.28, Pt. 1 Navigation Report 1895, No. 28 Pt. 2 Navigation Laws and in Black Leather: 54th Congress, 1st Session 1895-96. at spine base stamped in black:3400. Leather soiled and scuffed. Front spine gutter showing signs of wear 1/2" from top. Bookplate from University of North Dakota Library on front endpaper.Hinges loosening. Browned around edges on endpapers and following page, but not on title p. or subsequent pages. Interior is tight, clean, and in Very Good + condition. Still a handsome book. 456 pp. some pages uncut. Index, Addenda. Covers: Documents of Vessels, Customs Laws Dealing with Vessels, Chinese Immigration, Seal Fisheries, Slave Trade, Log-Books, Tariffs, Immigration, Cattle and Live-Stock Trade, Officers and Seamen, Yachts built. 32 Statistical tables.

18th Congress, 1st Session, Doc. No. 161. May 7, 1824. Read: Ordered that it lie upon the table. 3 pp. 22 foldout charts listing immigrants entering United States from "fourth quarter of 1822, and ending with the third quarter of 1823." Disbound government document. Residue from book remains on spine edge. Document is nearly separated, kept together only by two string-ties. Page edges are chipped, corners are bent, small tears. Paper is browning from age and has foxing, but text is still legible. Document in Good condition.

The value of this addition to our material wealth has never been more appreciated than during the last two decades." Special Report on Immigration as submitted by Edward Young, Chief of Bureau and Information for Immigrants, relative to the prices and rentals of land, the staple products, facilities of access to market, cost of farm stock, kind of labor in demand in the western and southern states, etc. etc. for the year 1869-1870. Report on Immigration pp. I-XXVII. Information for Immigrants pp. 1-231. Included are tables showing the average weekly wages paid in the several states. Important social document regarding immigration in American history in the late 19th Century. Disbound. Original string-tie present, but does not keep sections bound together. Several sections are separated, but still able to be read easily. Page edges are browning, but text still legible. Some very small spots (ink? mold?) on first page, and smudge on bottom of second page. Overall document is Very Good.

"Sir: I have the honor to transmit, herewith, statements showing the number and designation of the passengers who have arrived from foreign countries in each collection district of the United States, and in each quarter, during the year 1842..." Page 2-33 tables with Custom-House, with name of collector, Quarter ending, Occupations (laborers, servants, ladies, gentlemen, farmers, etc), Males, Females, then a breakdown of ages: Under 5-males, females; from 5 to 10 years-male and female, etc to "Upward of 40 years", Where born, and Total. Disbound but intact. Light foxing. Otherwise clean and Very Good. Early historic document.
