Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was an American statesman, a Republican politician, and noted historian. Russell Sturgis, Ph.D. (1836-1909), was an architect and art critic. Thomas Allibone Janvier (1849-1913) was an American story-writer and historian. William Dean Howells (1837-1920) was an American realist author and literary critic. Worthington Chauncey Ford (1868-1941) was an American historian. Wolcott Leclear Beard (1867-1937) was an Engineer, adventurer and author. Famous illustrators include: Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the American West. Arthur Burdett Frost (1851-1928) was an early American illustrator, graphic artist, painter and comics writer. Peter Newell was famous as an illustrator of children's books at the turn of the century. Louis Loeb (1866-1909), was a well-known artist. Otto H. Good January issue, Vol. VII, No. 81."This Magazine is edited by a Spanish-American and World War Veteran and is dedicated to the Fighting Forces of the United States and Canada." 64 pp. Captain Billy's Whiz Bang is considered the great grandfather of the National Lampoon and other humor magazines. Once considered risqué, it is now considered a mirror of contemporary society in the Roaring Twenties. After serving in World War I, Wilford H. "Captain Billy" Fawcett began printing a small bulletin of barracks humor for disabled servicemen in a veterans' hospital. A wholesaler picked up the publication and started selling it in hotels and drugstores. Color illustrated cover-some wear. Creased down middle as if folded. Shows through a bit inside-minor. Stapled. Dr. Channing was an honorary transcendentalist, as an active Unitarian minister whose productive years predated and anticipated many of the ideas adopted by Emerson and Parker, in particular, so much that Emerson would say respectfully, "he is our Bishop." Lydia Huntley Sigourney née Lydia Howard Huntley (September 1, 1791 - June 10, 1865) was an extremely popular American poet during the early and mid 19th century. She was commonly known as the "Sweet Singer of Hartford." Most of her works were published with just her married name "Mrs. Sigourney." Francis Thomas (February 3, 1799-January 22, 1876) was a Maryland politician who served as Governor of Maryland from 1842-1844. He also served as a United States Representative from Maryland. Marcus Morton (December 19, 1784-February 6, 1864) was a lawyer, jurist, and politician from Taunton, Massachusetts. He represented Massachusetts in the United States House of Representatives and served two terms as Governor of Massachusetts. The United States Magazine and Democratic Review began publication with the October 1837 issue. In 1852 its name changed to Democratic Review, and it seems to have ceased publication or been absorbed into other magazines not long afterward. $50.00

Marie Corelli (May 1, 1855 - April 21, 1924) was a British novelist. Born Mary Mackay in London, she was the illegitimate daughter of a well known Scottish poet and songwriter, Dr. Charles Mackay, and his servant, Elizabeth Mills. Mary Mackay began her career as a musician, adopting the name Marie Corelli for her billing. She gave up music, turning to writing instead and in 1886 published her first novel. Her works were collected by members of the British Royal Family, and by Winston and Randolph Churchill, amongst others. THE QUAKER was one of Frank Munsey's many short-lived magazines that was ultimately merged into Junior Munsey. It was described as "A magazine to entertain, it has no other mission." $60.00
