Intensive study resulting from investigations into pelagic fishery resources of the southeastern Australian area from the Tropic of Capricorn to part of the Australian coast between May 1948 and January 1941. Conducted aboard the reseach vessel M.V.Warreen, of the Commonwealth Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The work, essentially taxonomic, was carried out at 304 stations during a 2-1/2 year period. It was found that, next to crustaceans, tunicates comprise the chief portion of the zooplankton. This handbook is designed to provide a comprehensive guide to the identification and occurrence of pelagic and demersal species, most of which were recorded for the first time from Australian waters.
