Very Good An Illustrated Monthly for Those Interested in Coins, Medals and Paper Money. This issue includes: Lincoln in Numismatics, Supplementary List.(11pps.), Descriptive List of Obsolete Paper Money (6 pps.), B. & O. Railroad Issues Centennial Medal, New Issues of Italian Coins, and more. faded wraps, some yellowing around edges. One small spot (oil from fingers ?) at front side edge where one would open the pamphlet. Mild creases on back corners otherwise it is in Very Good+ condition. No tears. Interior is clean and tight. Good The Numismatic and Antiquarian Society of Philadelphia. A Paper Read Before The Society February 5, 1880. "Upon the reverse of a denarius of Augustus Caesar we find the inscription SIGNIS RECEPTIS S. P. Q. R. around a blank shield surrounded by a legionary ensign and eagle. This is an historical coin." 7 pp. Uncut at top edge. Covers soiled and mildly faded. Small 1/2"x3/16" missing from front bottom edge. Top corner tip missing on front/back covers. ex.-mus numbers on front top edge. Overall covers are Good. Interior is tight, clean and Very Good. Side edges with small tears. Pages 5-6 side tear, 3/4". Henry Phillips, Jr. was an author, philologist, and numismatist. Although he was admitted to the Philadelphia Bar in 1859, Phillips devoted most of his life to researches and writings in the fields of philology, numismatics, and folklore. He was most closely identified with the American Philosophical Society where he served at various times as curator, secretary, and librarian. Henry Phillips, Jr. died in 1895. $35.00

Good Reprinted from the American Journal of Numismatics for January, 1882. "The coin which has attracted my attention is a hemidrachm, struck about 250 B. C., bearing on the obverse a chimaera, with the inscription Sigma Iota; reverse, a dove flying, Sigma in field. Sicyon, now Basitico, in the Peloponnesus, was the capital of the country of the same name. It was among the most ancient of the inhabited portions of Greece, preserving an autonomy under varying vicissitudes, and ultimately becoming a member of the Achaian League." 9 pp. mostly uncut. ex.mus. stamp/numbers on front cover. Bottom edge with tears and mildly at side edge. Vertical crease down the middle as if folded - line visible in text, but not obtrusive. Interior is tight, clean and Very Good +.
