32d Congress, 1st Session. Senate. Rep. Com. No. 272. "The Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred the message of the President of the United States, of the 15th June, 1852, communicating a report from the Secretary of State, together with a letter from Senor Don Calderon de la Barca, minister of Spain to the United States, claiming indemnity for losses sustained by certain Spanish subjects by the unlawful violence of a mob in New Orleans, consequent on hearing of the execution of certain persons who unlawfully invaded the island of Cuba in August, 1851, with the recommendation of the President contained in said message, that the indemnity should be granted,..." 6 pp. Including a Message from the President (Millard Fillmore); a short paragraph from Danl. Webster, Secretary of State to the President: "The Secretary of State accordingly suggests that Congress be recommended to make provision for the reparation desired"; and correspondence from the Minister to Spain, A.Calderon De La Barca to "The Hon. Daniel Webster, Secretary of State of the United States." Document is disbound. Pages 1-2 are loose, otherwise the document is clean and Very Good+.

Maj. Gen. G. K. Warren, MAJ. of Engrs. U.S.A. Soundings taken Aug. 26, 1867 and Aug. 30, 1867. Size of map: 20"x19". Second foldout has no title. "Diagram" of Mississippi River with lettering showing "Island", "Bottom covered with trees", "Road from Ferry", "Stone Building" and "Cemetery". Paragraph in document explains it as "Four places where the bridge might be judiciously located." Disbound. String-tied. Front/back page loose but intact. Otherwise document is Very Good. REPORT: In the Senate, The Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred a resolution for the expulsion of James F. Simmons, a senator of the United States from the State of Rhode Island . 37th Congress, 2d Session, Senate. Rep. Com. No. 69. States the details and circumstances behind a government contract for rifles which Senator Simmons helped obtain and later received a commission. "Mr. Simmons who has appeared before the committee and with great frankness and fairness detailed all the circumstances of the transaction, and answered all questions put to him promptly and without hesitation, also stated that he is now, and was at the time, unconscious of having done anything wrong in acting as he did..." 4 pp. Disbound. Bangs and their associates, praying the right of way and subscription to the stock of the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company", have had the same under consideration and respectfully report: The petitioners propose to connect the valley of the Mississippi with San Francisco, in California, by telegraphic wires, and ask the aid of the government in behalf of the undertaking, offering in return the use of the wires for all government purposes for the term of ten years from the time of the completion of the work..." 4 pages. Message from the President...Communicating In answer to a Senate resolution of February 20, 1878, Information in relation to the disease prevailing among swine and other domestic animals. "In Compliance with a resolation of the Senate, adopted on the 20th instant, calling upon me for such information as may be in my possession relative to the disease prevailing among swine, commonly know as "hog cholera"...I have the honor to herewith transmit a large number of letters, from almost every section of the country, relating to this and the many diseases to which all other classes of domestic animals are subject. For some years past the local press, and especially the agricultural journals of the country, have been calling attention to the increase of diseases among farm-stock, and the consequent heavy losses annually sustained by our farmers and stock breeders and growers. I regarded the subject as one of such vast importance to the productive industries of our country, as to demand the immediate attention of this department..." 149 pages. Each page contains numerous testimonies of farmers on the affects of the diseases to their livestock.Table showing number of swine annually raised in the U.S. , the number lost by various diseases and the value of such losses; and the value of all other classes of domesticated animals annually lost by disease. Disbound but intact. Document is clean, tight and Very Good. Famous Americans in document: R. B. Hayes, President; and William G. Le Duc, U.S. Commissioner of Agriculture.

Mr. Cockrell , from the Committee on Military Affairs, submitted the following Report..Directing the restoration of the official letter books of the executive department of the State of North Carolina..." The Secretary of War's reply: "...there is no definite evidence on file going to show how these records came in the possession of this department, but it is believed they were captured by the forces of the United States among the records of the Confederate Government." 2 pages-front and back. Famous Americans in document: F. M. Cockrell,Confederate general and U.S. senator, b. Johnson co., Mo. Enlisting as a private with Confederate forces in the Civil War, he became a brigadier general in 1863. Cockrell’s Brigade was a famous unit in the Western fighting. After the war Cockrell entered Democratic politics, and in 1874 Missouri elected him to the U.S. Senate, where he served until 1905; and Alex. Ramsey, Secretary of War. Disbound. Chipping at spine where disbound, otherwise Very Good +. Clean-no foxing.

Temperance, in her opinion, was basically a measure for the protection of home life and therefore an ideal which demanded personal sacrifice.
