SIGNED: "Providence Athenaeum. from the Author" on the cover. From Annuls of the Lyceum of Natural History in New York, Vol. VI., p.80. April 1854. Providence Athenaeum Stamp on first page of text. "In June, 1853, the writer entered upon a pedestrian tour through the States of Kentucky, Tennessee, and part of Georgia, with the double purpose of renovating health, and of collecting the numerous and varied species of fluviatile shells with which our Western streams and rivers abound. The Journey was extended as far as Macon, in Georgia..." unpaginated. Gives 50 descriptions of shells. On the front endpaper, strip of paper glued with the explanation: "The plates are delayed, but will be furnished hereafter.". Some soiling to covers. Back cover detached. Exterior is Good to Good-. Vertical crease down the middle-shows more in the text than on covers. One reddish spot? on first page in side margin, some markings/corrections on second and third page (done by author?), otherwise interior is clean, tight, and VG+.
