NEWCOMB "Mortality experience of the Connecticut mutual life-insurance Co."; and in Letters to the Editor ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL "The Wisconsin Bill relating to the instruction of deaf-mutes"; and EUGENE A. SMITH " Tertiary phosphates in Albama". Other articles: "Composite Portraits of Members of the National Academy of Sciences" with a full page of 4 portraits protected by a tissue guard; " American Flash Language in 1798" with Tufts's glossary, 1793-98; "Walking and Running" with 5 illustrations; and under Notes and News, a paragraph on the "earlier floods of the lower Mississippi" with a map. Also "Naval architecture in England, and "Recent British locomotives". Paper covers lightly soiled with chipping around edges. ex-mus. stamp on front cover. Top right corner of front cover missing,and another piece of top border. Bottom edge piece folded up and corner missing. Tearing at spine. Covers still intact. Overall covers are Good-. First 3 pages' upper corners missing, 1 1/2"x1/2", not on text. Otherwise interior is tight, clean and VG+.

And Adapted to the New Practice in the States of Missouri, California, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Alabama; The Territories of Oregon and Minnesota, and the Island of Newfoundland, with Copious Notes and Authorities to Which are Added Forms in Submissions of Controversy Without Action; In Proceedings Against Joint Debtors, Etc.; And of Judgments by Confession. 541 pages with index. Full leather covers with red and black title bars and gilt lettering on spine. Cover corners are bumped and rubbed, edges rubbed, plenty of rubbing and scuffing to cover faces, some areas with tears to leather, black marks. Top spine end is torn and pulling away from book, bottom end is scuffed. Front hinge completely broken and is pulling away from rest of book exposing spine. Endpapers are separated from rest of book. Interior pages are browning and foxing, some pages with mold marks. Some evidence of bug damage to lower corners of interior pages and on back inside cover. Book in Good- condition.

March 31, 1828. 6 pp. Disbound government document. Residue from book binding remains along spine edge, which is also creased and chipped. Document paper is cut slightly off-center, but text is easily legible. Paper is browning and foxed, edges are rubbed with some water stains, corners creased. Document in Good+ to VG- condition.

Pages are tanned, foxing spots on many pages, paper is wavy to the touch, text is easily legible. Document in Good-Good+ condition.

Evidence of erased pencil writing on back free endpaper. Wear to cover corners and edges, front cover slightly creased from reading, minor soiling, spine ends are rubbed/bumped from shelfwear. Page 135-6 has crease on top page edge from paperclip. Inkspots/marks on several pages, and checkmarks beside stories on TOC. Book in Good+ to VG- condition.
